Great Oaks Drive Bridge at Brushy Creek Study

Location Intersection of Great Oaks Drive and Brushy Creek
Description Study regarding bridge replacement over Brushy Creek on Great Oaks Drive. This project also will improve the intersection of Great Oaks Drive and Brushy Creek Road / Hairy Man Road.

Williamson County and its consultant team spent the past 18 months evaluating various alternatives for the Great OaksDrive / Brushy Creek/ Hairy Man Road intersection with the ultimate goal of finding a solution that would help reduce flooding conditions while also improving mobility and safety for both vehicles and pedestrians moving through this intersection. Based on the study, two feasible alternatives were selected for public review and comment: a more traditional at-grade intersection and a non-conventional but effective grade-separated intersection. The team has evaluated these alternatives based on immediate and long-term benefits, alignment with the long-range transportation plan, public input, and associated short term and long term costs. Although both options provided benefits of improved mobility and reduced flooding, the at-grade alternative received greater public support, provides safer vehicular turning movements, provides better pedestrian mobility, has significantly less environmental impact, and has a lower estimated cost. Taking these factors into consideration, the County has decided to proceed with design of the at-grade alternative (click here for design).  The two proposals are on the right side of this page under "Documents."

The Hairy Man Road / Brushy Creek Road project This project is 3.77 miles in length and includes a traffic study and preliminary evaluation of possible safety improvements along 3.4 miles of the corridor between Brushy Bend Drive and Sam Bass Road. Project engineer Atkins continues work to finalize the traffic study along Brushy Creek Road / Hairy Man Road and also is currently preparing a preliminary schematic plan depicting proposed safety improvements.
